Alrighty... first off, how long has it been since Bible times and we're still dealing with this very redemptive violent thinking? I like his comment that violence can't bring peace and how much of a "duh" statement that is, but why do we still believe it is? I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, the "Popeye" refrence. That kind of stuff makes it easier for me to understand and enjoy (as you all know, I'm a giant kid). I love the entire Matthew passage because it shows that the Bible doesn't knly say this is what you should do, it show Jesus succeding in carrying it out, and he knew it was going to happen. I am going to make a shirt that says, "Jesus died bloody, but His hands were clean," because of the immense amount of truth in that statement. Hopefully this message will make me think twice about getting angry at someone. Hope you guys got something good out of this as well. Praying for you!!

...Rob Bell got most this message wrong.

First redemptive violence is wrong. It makes no sense to just keep fighting to get back at each other when all you're doing is hurting more people in the long run and satisfying.

However it is naive to belive violence doesn't bring more peace. Look at Jesus and the violence he went through. Not only was it predicted but it happened to give us the most important peace... the enternal one.

Also violence brought quite alot of peace in WWI, WWII, Civl War, Revolutionary War and so many others. Let also remeber the tensions and wars fought to save the Protestant Reformation. That was crucial for anything we do today, unless you want to say that was wrong and we should all be Catholic.

Yes there is a better way for alot of things like what is going on in Iraq right now or like Vietnam but war/violence is nesessary. Why do cops carry guns?

Jesus did bring radical idea's like turn the other check and love your enemy and plray for those who persecute you. What he did not say was let them kill people as they wish and then let them kill you.

What he did say which I've grown very fond of is Matt. 10:16

"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."

Jesus asks us to do what's right but think above the curve and find better solutions. If be is it find a way to make it work better. If violence is it do it to the point there wont have to be anymore and do it in the fastest/best/most strategic way possible.

AL: um... i don't believe that your last comment is true... where in the bible does is say do what's right, BUT find another solution that YOU think is right, but more than likely isn't true? Also, he never said anything about redemptive violence being right. As far as your "violence bringing peace" comment... i don't think you've grasped the concept. It was because of petty quarrels and tiresom fights that bring most wars on and we as Chrisitans are not called to violence. Cops carry guns because people who aren't Believers choose to react in a violent way. I don't agree with some of your comments... Sorry bud.

Fellas, I would like to apologize for just now commenting and still not having heard the sermon. Last week was "Hell" week and i literally had no time to do anything. I only talked to my mom and dad once or twice the entire week. I am just now downloading the sermons and so i will be on now. I know there is no excuse but please forgive me. I am initiated now though so all i have to do now is accounting.
